Wind day. The Arion undergoes about 15 degrees of rolling, and also an important pitching : pastic bags are distributed in every parts of the vessel.Savety drill
At 9, the traditionnal rescue drill is organised. Seven short blasts followed by one long, and a ballet of orange lifejackets begins. Our assembly station is in the Lido : we refind here 150 passengers (the other half is in the Main Lounge, in the fore part). The atmosphere begins to become unpleasant : the waves make the ship dancing, and the 150 guests feel more and more sultry. After the savety orders reading, the drill is officially ended. I do not describe you the end of the morning ; what could I say else than the two-thirds of the passengers - including me - run in their cabins with a little white bag in the hands. The some people resisting to seasickness admire the sea show : the Arion is a little massive cruise vessel, and she's not affraid by 5-Beaufort winds.Kotor approachs
The so hoped truce arrives at 2 PM : we are approaching Kotor, so that the rough sea is going away. More by volition than by pleasure, I eat at midday : nothing better than a empty stomach to become seasick. For the moment, I visit the Arion bridge for the first time : the captain looks unusually open-minded, and offered us a free access. Some fearless passengers are on the observation deck, drenched by the mists - contrary to the bridge wings, which are protected. The Kotor Fjords appears in the fog, with a Norwegian look. I refind my loved atmosphere, between the chart, the navigational aids and the permanent watchkeeping. The ship was totally refitted in 2000s, and doesn't have any more historical instruments : like on the most vessels, the helm is reduced to a plastic wheel...
The entrance in Kotor Fjords spends more than two hours : the Sun would give a wonderful show... Arion moors at a berth located near the entrance of the Middle-Age city. Unfortunatly, our tour in Kotor is fondamentally hampered by the poor weather. We walk in the historic town, stopping in the magnificient church. The city is boarded by walls and does not receive a lot of cars, to circulate in these so tight streets being very hard. On the mount dominating Kotor, we can see a castle : our guide explains us that with a better weather, we could reach it and admire there a nice panorama... This will be for a next time ; at this moment, drenched, we return to our vessel, huddled under my embrella.
As soon as we reach our cabin, we choose warm clothes and we try to dry the cameras. I'm not sure that Arion hairdryers had already been as used as this day. We go back then to our Dining room with the other staff members. This evening, Mika has diner with us, and Mister Piel comes to see us at several times. The diner is one more time so delicious, and makes every guest to forget the hard morning.
We are always in the Library when arrives 10 PM : this evening, Filomena, a Portugese singer, interprets some French famous sings, enjoyed with emotion by the passengers. Filomena left her shoes before to come on the scene, in order to dodge the ships motions, she will sing barefooted. The rolling decreased since this morning, but the dancers are crazy : the orchestra stops playing a little after noon. Our day takes end again in the Winter Garden, while the Arion is arriving in Greek waters.
